Celebrating The Adventures of Bibi & Friends...100 Years of Miami Beach

A lot has happened since my last post, but here is a quick look! The latest edition of The Adventures of Bibi & Friends has hit the news stands and we are very excited for a major book signing at Book & Books in Coral Gables, FL Thursday May 12th at 6:30PM!

The Adventures of Bibi and Friends and The City of Miami Beach celebrate Miami Beach’s 100th Anniversary with one of the coolest history books ever produced, celebrating the history, fashion, architecture, entertainment and pop culture of Miami Beach.

The Adventures of Bibi and Friends Comic Book, which is produced and published by Brigittte Andrade and illustrated by Rodney Jackson of Rocko Rocket fame, has turned out to be a living history of Miami Beach, from its blooming renaissance in the 1990’s through today.

The book contains over 500 comic illustrations featuring those who built, work and play in Miami Beach, as well as celebrities such as Harrison Ford, George Clooney, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Frank Sinatra, and other entertainers and pioneers from past decades. In this limited collector’s edition, you will experience the sizzling sights, sounds and rhythms of the past 100 years in Miami Beach; the tropical paradise known as The American Riviera, with Bibi as your glamorous Miami Beach ambassador!

TODAY IS THE WORLD CUP FINAL

GERMANY VS ARGENTINA

I don't know about you, but this has been an exciting World Cup 2014. There was so much drama, including a complete meltdown of the Brazilian team not to advance to the finals or win 3rd place. I can only hope the Brazilian people realize they put on a good show, but will it have been worth for them because of the cost...only time will time, but in the meanwhile there is one more day international world class soccer. One of the best things to come out of this World Cup is America's new found love for the game...it's about time!!!

SOCCER MAY NOT BE OUR RELIGION, BUT IS IS DEFINITELY BECOMING OUR SPORT IN THE USA!

The 2014 World Cup is shaping up to be one of the best in years. As we near the end of the first round, a lot of goals and surprise advancements have happened. Some big Euro teams are already out and first time teams like Greece advance to the knockout rounds. The USA vs Germany match TODAY, will probably be the most watched USA game...ever! Football aka Soccer has FINALLY taken a foothold in the conscience of America, like the new frontier of some kind. It took awhile (a very long time actually), but now that we are here...GO USA!!!!

World Cup Fever

Well unless you live under a rock, World Cup fever has taken over the planet! I am scouring the web to find you some of the best and fun things happening during the World Cup. If you have never listened to any of the Latin America broadcast of the games you are in for a treat and you do not need to speak Spanish to understand!

Switzerland just pulled off a fantastic win to beat Ecuador. I thought it would be a draw, but that is the great thing thing about soccer, it doesn't end until the fat lady sings!

Tomorrow the USA plays Ghana in Natal. They have had an unusual amount of rainfall...
36 hours of rain (read here). I have always enjoyed games played in the elements, like American Football in the snow or rain, but it also raises the injury potential. All I can say is...YIKES!!!

WORLD CUP OPENING CEREMONY (IN SPANISH)

The opening ceremony just took place in Sao Paulo. Of course this is not the Olympics...more like a halftime or Superbowl show, but I liked it! It was about 20 minutes long, but here is little clip for you to enjoy! Featuring Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and accompanied by Claudia Leitte during a performance of the official song "We Are One."

A New Song For World Cup

Here is Kelly Rowland's new song -The Game for the World Cup Pepsi Beats Beautiful Game. Video is directed by Spike Lee. Catchy tune...

By the way if you are passing though Miami International Airport, they have 31 days of games. The celebration will highlight the soccer-themed attractions being held at the airport, including Brazilian music and dance performances, interactive mini-soccer fields and Nintendo Wii Soccer game stations.

Here is another take on the World Cup and six books that explain the frenzied interest in the World Cup...lol!

INSANE SOCCER SKILLS

This is like watching the Harlem Globetrotters with a ball!!  Would be nice to see some of these mad skills during the World Cup!

There seems to still be some resistance to soccer on the part of some Americans. I completely do not agree, but here is look from the other side. I wonder what it would take to change his mind??? Hum...

IS BRAZIL READY FOR THE WORLD CUP?

This is the question on the minds of many people. I know the excitement level of watching some great and maybe some not so great soccer matches, is still thrilling, but I have a little knot in my stomach pertaining to some of those new stadiums. I personally would feel very uncomfortable going to a stadium that is untested on capacity use. There have been a few deaths in the building process and behind the scene stories of potential corruption and cutting corners. This makes a recipe for disaster, but I am an optimist and really hope that the Brazilian people put their best face on for the world. Obviously the cost of doing so was too high a price to pay for some Brazilians. We hear this morning that there is a strike at the airport and that traffic is a nightmare. Despite the fact that the roof of the stadium in Sao Paulo is not complete, today is game time and I hope that the Brazilians (some of the biggest fans in the world), show the world why soccer IS a religion to them. Best of luck, we will all be watching! #worldcup #worldcup2014 #bibiadventures

WORLD CUP HUMOR

I don't know how many of you know John Oliver. He is a British guy that has a new program on HBO called Last Week With John Oliver and the guy is hilarious. He too is a major soccer fan and is looking forward to the World Cup and conflicted at the same time, as am I.  He said it better then me...so check it out!

LAST WEEK WITH JOHN OLIVER

Funny and disturbing at the same time. I truly hope Brazil is ready for the world.  I considered the Brazilians, some of the major soccer fans of all time. After all we have to remember it is a RELIGION in many countries. Sports a Religion??? Hummm.....we might have to discuss!

And now for another fabulous woman who is trying to get Americans on the "FOOTBALL" wagon...I had to go there!

The Adventures of Bibi And Friends: Back To The World Of Blogging!

WOW!!!!!
It's been over a year since I last wrote on my blog. To say I've been busy with other things is an understatement. We are about to celebrate 15 Years of The Adventures of Bibi And Friends! I'm beyond excited to bring you a new fantastic issue "As Time Fly's" Then and Now South Beach 1999-2014. We we incorporate all the previous books and update you on some of the places and comic characters that appeared in the book over the past 15 years!

As many of you know I've created a new web animation series

"Where Comic Book Meets Reality" for the  The Adventures of Bibi And Friends comic book.  This has been very exciting and getting great response. The series started in May with Bibi's Adventures In Europe.

I got to be a tour guide for some very unique locations in Italy, Switzerland and London. I loved doing this and would like to have a travel segment for Bibi! It was my first time and an interesting experience. Looking Forward to adding that to the program on a regular basis!

Bibi Olympic Zone_Michael Phelps Ties The Record

THE 2012 LONDON OLYMPICS WITH
BIBI & ELIZABETH

EPISODE 2 "EXPLORING LONDON"

Today's Highlight's

Michael Phelp's has tied the record with the old Soviet Union gymnast Larisa Latynina, racking up 18 Olympic medals. One more and he takes over the history books!

The USA women's gymnastic team WON GOLD!!!!!
Congrats to the Men's USA volleyball team, which won gold for the time in 20 years! Also congrats to USA women, which advanced to the quarterfinals with their 1-0 win over North Korea!

Random Opinions
I have to mention the 16 year old Chinese swimmer, Ye Shiwen who was faster in the final leg of the 400 individual medley then Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. She beat her own record by 7 seconds from the year before. Is this "interesting" or "incredulous"? I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but when you swim like that, don't be surprised when they want to dope test you. I know she is young and a prodigy, so right now I will send her my congrats, until otherwise!

Cheers!

2nd Athlete Thrown out of Games for Bad Tweet

WOW! Twitter is playing a big role in these Olympics, as in this is the 2nd Olympian tossed for a bad tweet.  Michel Morganella, a player on the men's Swiss soccer team, apparently sent out a tweet saying Koreans should "burn themselves" and described them as "retards" after the Swiss lost 2-1 to South Korea on Sunday.

BAD....VERY BAD SPORTSMANSHIP!

The first to go was Demtris Nellas from Greece. This was her tweet “With so many Africans in Greece…at least the West Nile mosquitoes will eat homemade food!!!”What are they thinking? An inappropriate tweet can send you home so fast, you won't have time to even tweet an apology!

Game Over before it barely begin.  What a shame!!

Bibi Olympic Zone_ Let The Games Begin!

The 2012 Olympic Games Have Begun!

I am always excited to see the Olympics! It takes so much work and dedication to get there. There is a VISA commercial running on what it takes to get to the Olympics...the commercial is so right on. You can't buy your way onto the podium, you have to run, swim, bike, sail or perform one of the various Olympic talents, which makes this unique in my opinion.

Highlights:

Opening Ceremonies: Of course the best part was the Queen and James Bond segment. I loved it, but I do have to ask one question though...Is there a reason why the Queen doesn't smile, when it seems she should...like at an Olympic ceremony in your nation?  Someone asked during the ceremony here in America, what does she carry in her hand bag? The answer back jokingly: Her smile! I knows she smiles and think she is a great lady. If the British people know something about these things, share your thoughts, but I will delete anything that is not in the Olympic spirit.

By the way there seemed to be a little scandal about the flame.  Apparently it could not be seen outside the stadium. I am happy to report, it seems that the flame has been moved to the other side of the stadium (see photo below) and relit! That is good news because not everyone gets to see the games but can enjoy
Olympic Park, and want to see the flame. I know I would!

At the opening ceremony, we had our first time Olympic watcher!

Olympic Results:

The gymnastics have been interesting, with China & Romania
woman athlete's having a few missteps. Can't wait to see the women perform.  The USA men unfortunately slipped in 5th place today and will see no medal after Danell Leyva & John Orozco faltered on the pommel horse.
The wonderful surprise is that Great Britain first scored Silver, then Japan had an inquiry over the pommel horse, which bumped their score from 4th to 2nd place, hence Great Britain won Bronze!

Olympic Medal Highlights

Medal Count as of 7/30 (will update tonight)

I'll be back with more Olympic results and the latest Bibi animations.

Cheers!

Is London Ready For The Olympics?

IS LONDON READY?

I have very high hopes that London will produce a great Olympics, but if today was any indication of things to come, they will have to pickup the pace a little. Today's gaffe happened when the electronic scoreboard showed the South Korean flag for the North Korean women's football match against Colombia. Seems the women had a fit and delayed the game by one hour until it was corrected.

I would advise to have someone that knows all the national flags or has a computer in front of them to Google it!

CONGRATS to the USA women's soccer team for a comeback win and beating France!
Here is a link to an official London Site for The Olympics

Cheers Everyone!
